Kenya Airways Plc has experienced a substantial loss in the half year 2025.The cause of this decline the temporary grounding of three Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft which constitute to 33% of the company’s wide body fleet. The temporary grounding was caused by global spare parts supply constraints and limited engine availability. Another major reason for the decline was the weakening of Kenya shillings against other currencies as compared to the first half of 2024.
Kenya Airways Plc Income Statement
The total Income of the company reduced by 18.57% to KES 74.5 billion in 2025 this was a result of the reduction in passengers by around 14% therefore leading to decrease in income of the company.The total operating costs reduced by 10.48% to KES 80.7 million as compared to that of the previous half year this was due to the reduction of activities caused by temporary grounding of the three Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.The total operating profits in 2024 reduced to losses in 2025 where the company made a loss of KES 6.2 million thereby marking a year on year variation of 580.66%.
Kenya Airways Plc made a loss before income tax of KES 12.2 billion which marked a year on year variation of -2,020.03%,this was relatively high decline from the last period where the company had made a profit.The interest income increased by 52.17% to 35 million as compared to the previous period .The earnings per share also reduced greatly in both the diluted and basic share.The basic share were valued at KES( 2.09) million and had reduced compared to the half year in 2024 by 2,422.22%.The diluted share as well reduced by 2,414.2% thereby amounting to KES (1.62) million in the half year 2025.
Kenya Airways Plc Balance Sheet
Kenya Airways Plc had a strong balance sheet with assets amounting to KES 180.4 billion which was an increase from the previous year by 3.51%.The company’s liabilities also increased by 4.06% to KES 310 billion.The company increased its borrowing hence the increase in its debts. Equity also increased from the previous period by 4.85% to (129.6).This is due to high level of borrowing which lead to liabilities being more than it.The company has been able to recover one Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft in July and hopes others will resume later this year.This might recover the losses made before the end of the year.
