At the end of today’s trading session on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).

A total of 14,865,700 shares in 920 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 374,796,977.00, were traded.

Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Wednesday, December 16), today’s data shows 4% improvement in volume, 22% decline in turnover, but 4% improvement in deals.

The current NSE market capitalization is KES 2.2 trillion.

In the aggregate, 40 NSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with 16 gainers and 19 losers.

Kenya Power & Lighting Company Plc [KPLC] led the gainers with ✅9.09% share price appreciation closing at KES 1.56 per share, followed by:

✅Longhorn Publishers Plc [LKL] (+6.39%)
✅Sameer Africa Plc [SMER] (+4.60%)
✅HF Group Plc [HFCK] (+4.14%).

On the losing side, East African Portland Cement Company Plc [PORT] came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of ?9.58% at KES 10.85 per share, followed by:

?WPP ScanGroup Plc [SCAN] (-5.06%)
?Nairobi Securities Exchange Plc [NSE] (-3.67%)
?Equity Group Holdings Plc [EQTY] (-1.88%).

Safaricom Plc [SCOM] recorded the highest volume of 5.2 million traded shares, followed by:

➖Kenya Power & Lighting Company Plc [KPLC] (2.77m)
➖Co-operative Bank of Kenya [COOP] (1.79m)
➖KCB Group Plc [KCB] (1.72m).

➡️The benchmark NSE All Share Index [NASI] gained ✅0.09 points to close at 146.32

➡️The NSE 20 Share Index gained ✅1.36 points to close at 1796.41

➡️The NSE 25 Share Index declined ?5.56 points to close at 3271.76

As the December contracts on the NSE came to expiry, the derivatives market posted an exponential rise in turnover, with 91 contracts valued at Kes 2.19 million transacted, as compared to the 21 single stocks futures contracts valued at Kes 496,500 transacted in the previous trading session.

The secondary bond market on the Nairobi Securities Exchange posted a decline in activity during Thursday’s session with bonds worth Kes 2.30 billion traded in 102 deals during today’s session as compared to the Kes 3.57 Billion achieved in 70 deals during the previous trading session
