Equity Group Soars With 32% Profit Growth and Record Quarter

Equity Group’s nine-month after-tax profit grew 32.2% to KES 54.1 billion, from KES 40.9 billion in Q3 2024, buoyed by a 16.1% increase in Net Interest Income (NII).

Net Interest Income totaled KES 93.6 billion, up 16.1%, mainly driven by a decline in interest expenses and significant growth in income. Non-Interest Income rose marginally by 2.5% to KES 62.7 billion. Operating Income stood at KES 156.27 billion, up 10.3% from KES 141.7 billion in the same period the previous year.  

Equity Group recorded a decrease in total expenses to 90.6 billion in q3 2025 from KES 90.7 billion in Q3 2024. Loan loss provisions decreased by 8.2% to KES 11.6 billion, reflecting improved credit quality during the review period. 

Profit Before Tax jumped 28.5% to KES 65.9 billion. Notably, the Group’s Profit Before Tax for the three months of July, August and September surged 73% to KES 24 billion, marking its highest-ever quarterly profit. Earnings Per Share(EPS) improved to KES 13.81 from KES 10.41 in a similar period the previous year.

Equity Group closed the quarter with KES 1.8 trillion in total assets, up 6.7% year-on-year. Deposits inched up 2.2% to KES 1.3 trillion, accounting for 74% of the asset base. The lender saw its loan book expand 7.5% to KES 859.8 billion, bringing the Loan-to-Deposit Ratio (LDR) to 64%.

The Group is in a strong liquidity position, with its liquidity ratio at 61.0%, up from 55.0% in Q3 2024 and three-times the minimum statutory ratio by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). The lender’s Return on Average Assets improved to 4.2% from 2.7% in Q3 2024, while Return on Average Equity advanced to 28.3% from 23.7%.  Cost to Income Ratio (CIR),excluding loan loss provisions, stood at 50.6% reflecting good operational efficiency.
