At the end of the last weekday of trading on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).

A total of 4,284,100 shares in 718 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 171,008,261.00, were traded.

Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Thursday, January 2), today’s data shows 105% improvement in volume, 122% improvement in turnover, and 32% improvement in deals.

The current NSE market capitalization is KES 2.54 trillion.

In the aggregate, 43 NSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 ✅gainers and 08 ?losers.

Kenya Power & Lighting Company Plc [KPLC] led the gainers with ✅7.26% share price appreciation closing at KES 3.25 per share, followed by:

✅BOC Kenya Plc [BOC] (+6.9%)
✅CIC Insurance Group Plc [CIC] (+6.76%)
✅Sasini Plc [SASN] (+6.19%).

On the losing side, Stanbic Holdings Plc [SASN] came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of ?-5.03% at KES 103.75 per share, followed by:

?Sameer Africa Plc [SMER] (-1.45%)
?British American Tobacco (Kenya) Plc [BAT] (-1.26%)
?Diamond Trust Bank Kenya [DTB] (-0.90%).

Safaricom Plc [SCOM] recorded the highest volume of 905,000 traded shares, followed by:

➖Diamond Trust Bank Kenya [DTK] (732,600)
➖Kenya Power & Lighting Company [KPLC] (467,500)
➖Cooperative Bank of Kenya [COOP] (434,000).

➡️The benchmark NSE All Share Index [NASI] gained ✅1.39 points to close at 167.37

➡️The NSE 20 Share Index gained ✅33.96 points to close at 2707.90

➡️The NSE 25 Share Index gained ✅35.02 points to close at 4136.91

The Derivatives Market started the year with no trades on the first trading day of 2020.

The secondary Bond market at the NSE had 58 deals worth Kes 389.79 Million, indicating a rise in activity on the Fixed income segment as compared to Tuesday’s 47 deals valued at Kes 251.49 Million.
