At the end of today’s trading session on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).

A total of 14,248,200 shares in 908 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 459,048,943.00, were traded.

Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Tuesday, January 18), today’s data shows 62% improvement in volume, 63% improvement in turnover, but 2% decline in deals.

The current market capitalization of the Nairobi Securities Exchange is KES 2.54 trillion.

In the aggregate, 46 NSE equities participated in trading, ending with 21 ✅gainers and 12 🔻losers.

Longhorn Publishers Plc [LKL] led the gainers with a ✅10.00% share price appreciation closing at KES 4.40 per share, followed by:

✅Olympia Capital Holdings [OCH] (+9.66%)
✅Trans Century Plc [TCL] (+5.76%)
✅Car and General Kenya Plc [CGEN] (+4.68%).

On the losing side, East African Cables came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 🔻4.84% at KES 1.18 per share, followed by:

🔻Sasini Plc [SASN] (-2.43%)
🔻Nation Media Group Plc [NMG] (-2.35%)
🔻Nairobi Business Ventures [NBV] (-1.57%).

Safaricom Plc [SCOM] recorded the highest volume of 11 million traded shares, followed by:

➖Britam Holdings Plc [BRIT] (1.81m)
➖Equity Group Holdings Plc [EQTY] (349,700)
➖KCB Group Plc [KCB] (299,100).

➡️The benchmark NSE All-Share Index [NASI] dropped🔻1.23 to close at 163.07
➡️The NSE 20 Share Index dropped🔻0.59 points to close at 1889.69
➡️The NSE 25 Share Index dropped🔻12.21 points to close at 3663.09

Bonds & Derivatives on NSE.

Trading on the secondary bond market on the Nairobi Securities Exchange posted a decline in value, compared to Tuesday’s trading, with bonds valued at Kes 2.24 billion transacted in 78 deals compared to the Kes 3.17 billion worth of bonds achieved in 69 deals traded at the close of the previous trading session.

The derivatives market of the Nairobi Securities Exchange was fairly flat in activity compared to Tuesday’s trading with 10 single stock futures valued at Kes 409,100 as compared to the 10 single stock futures valued at Kes 410,430 traded during the previous trading session.
