At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) this week.

NSE Falls 0.6% in Broad Market Decline Despite Higher Activity

A total of 3,205,400 shares in 718 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 74,314,466.00, were traded.

Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Friday, October 2), today’s data shows 68% decline in volume, 69% decline in turnover, and 29% decline in deals.

The current NSE market capitalization is KES 2.11 trillion.

In the aggregate, 43 NSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with 17 ✅gainers and 17 ?losers.

Williamson Tea Kenya led the gainers with ✅7.50% share price appreciation closing at KES 139.75 per share, followed by:

✅Stanbic Holdings Plc [SBIC] (+7.19%)
✅ILAM Fahari Income REIT [FAHR] (+7.17%)
✅East African Cables Plc [CABL] (+6.21%).

On the losing side, Sasini Plc [SASN] came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of ?3.83% closing at KES 17.60 per share, followed by:

?WPP ScanGroup Plc [SCAN] (-3.73%)
?Absa Bank Kenya Plc [ABSA] (-2.65%)
?Centum Investment Company Plc [CTUM] (-2.5%).

Safaricom Plc [SCOM] recorded the highest volume of 1.1 million traded shares, followed by:

➖Equity Group Holdings Plc [EQTY] (338,900)
➖HF Group Plc [HFCK] (309,300)
➖CIC Insurance Group Plc [CIC] (262,400).

➡️The benchmark NSE All Share Index [NASI] gained✅ 0.11 points to close at 140.33
➡️The NSE 20 Share Index gained✅ 0.86 points to close at 1853.03
➡️The NSE 25 Share Index declined? 0.09 points to close at 3242.45

There were no contracts  concluded on the derivative market of the NSE during today’s trading session.

The secondary bond market on the Nairobi Securities Exchange recorded a moderate rise in activity during today’s session with bonds worth Kes 3.47 billion transacted in 72 deals in as compared to the Kes 2.71 billion achieved in 66 deals during the Friday’s trading session.
