At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) this week.

A total of 7,068,700 shares in 856 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 149,281,502.00, were traded.

Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Friday, December 18), today’s data shows 45% decline in volume, 52% decline in turnover, but 20% improvement in deals. The current NSE market capitalization is KES 2.22 trillion.

In the aggregate, 42 NSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 14 losers.

Trans Century Plc [TCL] led the gainers with ✅8.94% share price appreciation closing at KES 1.34 per share, followed by:

✅Bamburi Cement Plc [BAMB] (+4.29%)
✅Britam Holdings Plc [BRIT] (+4.27%)
✅Kenya Electricity Generating Company Plc [KPLC] (+3.98%).

On the losing side, Nairobi Business Ventures [NBV] came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of ?8.01% at KES 4.25 per share, followed by:

?Liberty Kenya Holdings Plc [LBTY] (-6.25%)
?Home Afrika Plc [HAFR] (-4.76%)
?I&M Holdings Plc [IMH] (-4.09%).

Kenya Power & Lighting Company Plc [KPLC] recorded the highest volume of 1.5 million traded shares, followed by:

➖Safaricom Plc [SCOM] (1.36m)
➖Centum Investment Company Plc [CTUM] (1.06m)
➖Equity Group Holdings Plc [EQTY] (784,300).

➡️The benchmark NSE All Share Index [NASI] declined ?0.52 points to close at 147.12

➡️The NSE 20 Share Index gained ✅13.94 points to close at 1810.82

➡️The NSE 25 Share Index declined ?6.69 points to close at 3292.13

The derivatives market of the Nairobi Securities Exchange had 5 single stocks futures contracts valued at Kes 46,050 transacted. This was a decline in activity as compared to the 15 contracts valued at Kes 167,850 transacted in during the previous trading session.

The secondary bond market on the Nairobi Securities Exchange posted an exponential rise in activity during today’s trading session with bonds worth Kes 3.72 billion traded in 72 deals during today’s session as compared to the Kes 5.00 Billion achieved in 78 deals during the previous trading session.
