Williamson Tea Kenya PLC and Kapchorua Tea Kenya PLC have announced the retirement of Alan Laurence Carmichael as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 31, 2026.
Mr. Carmichael’s retirement follows a successful career spanning over 50 years in the tea sector. He has served as CEO of Williamson Tea and Kapchorua Tea for 18 years, following his appointment in February 2008. During his tenure, he provided exemplary leadership that was instrumental in improving operational efficiency, product quality, production volumes, and market positioning. Despite his retirement, Mr. Carmichael will continue to serve as a Non-Executive Director.
In regards to the retirement, Williamson Tea and Kapchorua Tea Board of Directors has appointed Mr. Agnus Nyariki Omete as Managing Director and CEO, effective April 1, 2026. Mr. Omete currently serves as the Group’s Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director.
Williamson and Kapchorua Tea H12025 Financial Performance
In the six months ended September 2025, Williamson Tea narrowed its net loss to KES 10 million, compared to a loss of KES 122.4 million in the corresponding period the previous year.
Kapchorua Tea recorded a net profit of KES 95 million, up 422% from KES 18.2 million in the previous year, despite a 24% decline in revenue to KES 1.1 billion. The strong profit growth was largely driven by an increase in the fair value of biological assets, which rose to KES 39.4 million from KES 7.9 million a year earlier.
