ICEA LION Appoints Philip Lopokoiyit as CEO as Paul Muthaura Steps Down

The board of ICEA LION General Insurance Company Limited has appointed Mr Philip Lopokoiyit as the new Chief Executive Officer and Principal Officer of the company effective 20th September 2021 following regulatory approval.

The appointment follows the stepping down of Mr Paul Muthaura in line with medical advice so as to completely recover following an accident early in the year. The board however has expressed gratitude for the contribution he has made during his tenure saying;

“Paul has been instrumental in providing excellent leadership during the COVID-19 disruption ensuring business continuity and development of relevant innovations to ensure business sucesss. The board wishes him a quick and full recovery”. ICEA LION in their press release

Philip Lopokoiyit has over 20 years of experience in commercial and financial leadership. He is a seasoned commercial and market transformation expert with both executive and non-executive board member experience. Noting his diverse regional and country executive leadership positions the board said it is confident in the adaptability, growth and change management competencies he will bring to the business.

He has recently executed key strategy execution and business delivery leadership in companies as diverse as Flamingo Horticulture Kenya and British American Tobacco. Additionally, Philip has carried responsibilities as a Non-executive Director in various NCBA and NIC Group entities around Kenya and Uganda as well as the Board of CIC Asset Management.

Philip Lopokoiyit holds a masters degree in Business Administration from Warwick Business School, United Kingdom and a Bachelors of Commerce and Accounting from the University of Nairobi. He has also attended various leadership and Corporate governance programs in institutions such as Havard Business School and the Non-Executive Directors Association UK, the Centre for Corporate Governance and the College of Insurance.

The Board at ICEA LION Group said it was pleased with the appointment of Philip Lopokoiyit and is looking forward to working with him.
