Markets turned red with the NSE closing lowest since the year began

At the end of today’s trading session on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE),

A total of 11,591,200 shares in 1,103 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 413,050,977.00, were traded.

Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Monday, January 24), today’s data shows 2% decline in volume, 8% decline in turnover, but 14% improvement in deals.

The current market capitalization of the Nairobi Securities Exchange is KES 2.52 trillion.

In the aggregate, 47 NSE equities participated in trading, ending with 14 gainers and 20 losers. Trans Century Plc [TCL] led the gainers with ✅8.13% share price appreciation closing at KES 1.33 per share, followed by;

✅Crown Paints Kenya Plc [BERG] (+3.67%),
✅Standard Group Plc [SGL] (+3.53%)
✅CIC Insurance Group Plc [CIC] (+2.24%).

On the losing side, Car and General Plc [CGEN] came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 🔻9.74% at KES 60.25 per share, followed by;

🔻Express Kenya Plc [XPRS] (-8.35%)
🔻Olympia Capital Holdings Plc [OCH] (-6.03%)
🔻Longhorn Publishers Plc [LHK] (-5.48%).

Safaricom Plc [SCOM] recorded the highest volume of 7.91 million traded shares, followed by;

➖Equity Group Holdings Plc [EQTY] (1.22m)
➖KCB Group Plc [KCB] (934,700)
➖Kenya Power & Lighting Company Plc [KPLC] (399,800).

➡️The benchmark NSE All-Share Index [NASI] declined🔻2.18 to close at 161.95
➡️The NSE 20 Share Index declined🔻5.06 points to close at 1881.42
➡️The NSE 25 Share Index declined🔻36.48 points to close at 3649.64

Bonds & Derivatives on NSE.

Trading on the secondary bond market on the Nairobi Securities Exchange posted an increase in activity, compared to Monday’s trading, with bonds valued at Kes 2.39 billion transacted in 79 deals compared to the Kes 1.17 billion worth of bonds achieved in 54 deals traded at the close of the previous trading session.

The derivatives market of the Nairobi Securities Exchange saw an increase in activity in today’s trading session compared to Monday’s trading with 38 single stock futures valued at Kes 1,453,860 as compared to the 19 single stock futures valued at Kes 830,670 traded during the previous trading session.
