EPRA Reviews Fuel Prices Upwards on Excise Duty and Inflation Adjustments

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority,EPRA has increased the price of super petrol, diesel and kerosene taking into account the excise duty which came into effect on 1st October and average inflation of 4.94 percent for the financial year 2019/2020.

The new adjustment will now see consumers in Nairobi pay additional Ksh 1.12 for super petrol and Kes 0.58 for diesel and kerosene on top the previous review made on 14th September 2020.

With the inclusion of the excise duty and inflation, it now means,  a litre of super petrol in Nairobi rises by Kes 2.60, diesel by Kes 0.70 and kerosene rises by Kes 1.08.

Last month, EPRA raised the price of a litre of super petrol by Kes 1.48 while a litre of diesel reduced by Kes 0.12 and kerosene Kes 0.50.

According to EPRA, consumers in Nairobi will now pay a maximum of Kes 106.55 for a litre of super petrol, Kes 95.09 for a litre of diesel and 83.73 for a litre of kerosene.

In Mombasa, consumers will pay Kes 104.18 for a litre of diesel and 92.73 for a litre of diesel and 81.37 for a litre of kerosene. The new adjustments are effective 3rd October until 14TH October.

The excise duty adjustment will also affect alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as excisable tobacco products whose prices are expected to increase.
