Market Report 23 January, 2020

At the end of today’s trading session on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).

A total of 23,818,800 shares in 734 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 756,487,763.00, were traded.

Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Wednesday, January 22), today’s data shows 66% improvement in volume, 43% improvement in turnover, but 16% decline in deals.

The current NSE market capitalization is KES 2.51 trillion.

In the aggregate, 44 NSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with 12 ✅gainers and 24 ?losers.

Olympia Capital Holdings [OCH] led the gainers with ✅8.91% share price appreciation closing at KES 2.20 per share, followed by:

✅Carbacid Investments Plc [CARB] (+4.17%)
✅Home Afrika Plc [HAFR] (+3.77%)
✅Kenya Airways Plc [KQ] (+3.46%).

On the losing side, STANLIB Fahari Income REIT [FAHR] came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of ?6.26% closing at KES 8.98 per share, followed by:

?Trans Century Plc [TCL] (-3.75%)
?Uchumi Supermarkets Plc [UCHM] (-3.57%)
?Bamburi Cement Plc [BAMB] (-2.46%).

Safaricom Plc [SCOM] recorded the highest volume of 11.8 million traded shares, followed by:

➖Co-operative Bank of Kenya [COOP] (5.35m)
➖Equity Group Holdings Plc [EQTY] (2.99m)
➖Kengen Plc [KEGN] (1.37m).

➡️The benchmark NSE All Share Index [NASI] dropped ?0.21 points to close at 165.53

➡️The NSE 20 Share Index dropped ?5.27 points to close at 2642.31

➡️The NSE 25 Share Index dropped ?8.75 points to close at 4081.15

The Derivatives Market closed the day with 3 trades valued at Kes 128,500, a rise from the 3 contracts worth Kes. 40,500 traded in the previous session.

The secondary Bond market at the NSE had 59 deals worth Kes 1.83 Billion, a slight decline in value but an increase deals on the Fixed income segment as compared to Yesterday’s 75 deals valued at Kes 1.98 Billion
