Unga Group announces Changes to its Board of Directors effective 31 March 2026

The Board of Directors of Unga Group Plc (NSE: UNGA, -2.2% YTD) has announced changes to its composition, effective March 31, 2026, welcoming a new member while bidding farewell to a long-serving director. In a public announcement, Unga Plc confirmed the appointment of Mr. David Mucheni Kiambi as an Independent Non-Executive Director, who will be succeeding Mr. Patrick Ochieng Obath.

Mr. Kiambi brings a wealth of experience to the role, being a seasoned Human Resources Executive and Board Advisor with over 24 years of senior Human Resources leadership and 34 years of overall professional experience.

Throughout his career, he has held senior roles at Nation Media Group (NSE: NMG), NIC Bank Group (NSE: NCBA), and British American Tobacco (BAT) East Africa (NSE: BAT), overseeing HR functions in Kenya and the broader region.

He currently serves in a consultancy capacity supporting a diverse range of clients across East Africa. Mr. Kiambi holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Patrick Obath Departs Unga Group

Concurrently, Unga Group Plc Board has informed shareholders and the public of the retirement of Mr. Patrick Ochieng Obath from his role as a Non-Executive Director, which is also effective March 31, 2026. Mr. Obath’s tenure with the company has been extensive, having served on the Board since September 2013.

During his time at Unga Group Plc, he held the position of Chair of the Board Investments and Operations Committee and was also a member of the Board Nominations and Remuneration Committee. The Board acknowledged Mr. Obath’s distinguished leadership and strategic insight, noting that his contributions significantly bolstered the organization’s operational efficiency and overall business performance.
