Market Report: 22 April, 2020.

At the end of today’s trading session on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).

A total of 18,211,500 shares in 942 deals, corresponding to a market value of KES 606,019,962.00, were traded.

Compared with the previous NSE trading day (Tuesday, April 21), today’s data shows 62% decline in volume, 46% decline in turnover, and 13% decline in deals.

The current NSE market capitalization is KES 2.08 trillion.

In the aggregate, 47 NSE listed equities participated in trading, ending with 14 ✅gainers and 20 ?losers.

ABSA NewGold Exchange Traded Fund [GLD] led the gainers with ✅7.74% share price appreciation closing at KES 1,740.00 per share, followed by:

✅WPP ScanGroup Plc [SCAN] (+5.92%)
✅Express Kenya Plc [XPRS] (+5.84%)
✅Britam Holdings Plc [BRIT] (+3.92%).

On the losing side, Longhorn Publishers came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of ?7.17% closing at KES 4.53 per share, followed by:

?BOC Kenya Plc [BOC] (-7.12%)
?Stanbic Holdings Plc [SBIC] (-6.7%)
?Kenya Re-Insurance Corporation [KNRE] (-6.67%).

Safaricom Plc [SCOM] recorded the highest volume of 10.9 million traded shares, followed by:

➖Equity Group Holdings Plc [EQTY] (3.04m)
➖KCB Group Plc [KCB] (907,400)
➖East African Breweries Plc [EABL] (680,600).

➡️The benchmark NSE All Share Index [NASI] declined?1.18 points to close at 137.07

➡️The NSE 20 Share Index declined?9.10 points to close at 1985.76

➡️The NSE 25 Share Index declined?14.18 points to close at 3194.41

The Derivatives market of the NSE (NEXT) closed with 3 contracts  worth Kes 81,000 concluded in today’s session, The Safaricom contract expiring September 17, 2020 had 3 concluded at a price of Kes 27.00. This was the a decline compared to the 3 contracts  worth Kes 98,500 traded in the previous session.

The secondary Bond market at the Nairobi Securities Exchange recorded an increase in activity with bonds worth Kes 2.19 Billion trading in 81 deals, as compared to yesterday’s turnover of Kes 2.06 Billion which was achieved in 72 deals.
